There's really no best. Your characters race and sex will determine the opening sequence and influence your interactions with other characters. There's no way to get the best of all worlds here. No race will have universally positive interaction. There will always be someone with a bone to pick.

As far as class goes, if it's your first time through, and you're inexperienced with this type of game, I recommend going with the warrior class. It'll let you beat down enemies without having to juggle a ton of special skills and combat tactics. This doesn't mean that the other classes are worse than they warrior, but the player may have to take more time to learn how to use them effectively.

However, the most important thing is that you're happy with your choice. It's a game and, as such, is meant to be enjoyed. If you don't want to make your character a warrior, don't. It's better to spend a little while learning how to use a character you enjoy than it is to put up with one you don't just to breeze through combat. What is the best race/class to be in Dragon Age : Origins?
IMO the one with the best "origin" story is a dwarf noble. But im finicky on how my heroic warden looks, so play as human warrior. and for me, i think mages are boring, and rogues are boring. warriors have massive armor which looks cool. most of the light armor and cloth armor looks lame. there are also not a lot of mage weapons and armor. depends on what you want to be. i like 2h warrior. second DW warrior if I must. if its your first run though, play as a warrior, you wont have any specializations like reaver, arcane warrior or assassin unlocked anyways.
